Whether Victorian or post-apocalyptic, steampunk is fun. With all the gears and corsets and lace, it's right up my proverbial creative alley. The idea for these earrings came from a wonderful book called "Steampunk Emporium" by Jema Hewitt.

Buy it. Live it. Love it. |
Because the idea wasn't my own, I am not going to post the directions for these earrings. However, they are fairly easy to figure out. Just sayin'. The materials I used were different than those in the books in case you want to follow in my steampunk footprints.

The "shabby-chic" deck. Sure... we'll call it that. |
Materials:
- 2 packages of Tim Holtz Sprocket Gears (found at Benjamin Franklin, or available here)
- 2 earring wires
- 28 gauge silver wire (the real stuff or coated)
- 24 gauge silver wire (same as above)
- 4 clear crystals
- 8 to 10 small pearls
- Wire cutters and round nose pliers
And BAM- earrings!

It's like magic! |
One of my dogs wanted to see wanted to see what the photo shoot was about...
|
Oh hey, what's going on out here! |
... while another one plotted.
|
Soon... |
What I Learned:
- The holes on my pearls were very small so I used the 28 gauge wire
to wrap the beads onto the gears. The 28 gauge wire was too delicate to
use to attach the gear to the earring wire, however. That's what the 24
gauge wire is for.
I love the look your cute dog is giving them ;)glad you liked the book! I have a new one out this year too, steampunk and faeries and lovely things!
